Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of Odisha state also opened his royal treasure for the farmers in the end of 2018 year. The Odisha government has taken commendable steps on 21 December 2018 by initiating Krushak Assistance For Livelihood and Income Augmentation KALIA scheme in the direction of eradicating poverty from the state and giving social security to the farmer.

For this scheme, the government of Odisha has set a budget of Rs. 10,000 crores. In the implementation of the scheme in a smooth manner, provision has been made to be spent in the next 3 years from the financial year 2020-21.

Features of the Odisha-Kalia scheme

  • Farmers of the state will not have to pay any interest to crop loans up to Rs 50,000.
  • The financial assistance of Rs 10,000 for the farmers and agricultural laborers of Odisha State will be provided for crop yield.
  • This amount of Rupees 10,000 will be provided to the farmers by Rabi and Kharif crops twice in a year, 5,000-5,000 rupees by state Agriculture Department. Which can be used to handle the cost of food, seeds, water and electricity for farmers' produce in the fields.
  • The amount of Rs. 12,500 for landless farmers will be provided by the State Agriculture Department for their livelihood support through fish farming, goat rearing, poultry farming, mushroom farming etc.
  • Under the scheme, the benefit of Rs 2 lakh insurance scheme will be given to the farmers and agricultural laborers of Odisha State to ensure social security. In addition to this, the benefit of Accident Insurance of Rupees 2 lakh will also be provided.

Odisha Yojana - Benefits of the Kalia Scheme

  • With implementation of the scheme, 92% farmers and agricultural laborers of the state will be benefited.
  • A grant of Rs 12,500 will be provided to nearly 10 lakh landless farmers of the state. Thereby, they will be helped to sustain their livelihood.
  • Approximately two million farmers of the state have taken crop loans. With a grant of Rs.10 lakhs annually, they will be assisted in the discharge of agricultural expenses.
  • Under the scheme, farmers will be selected by the village panchayat to benefit the eligible farmers.
  • About 92% of Odisha farmers will be benefited from the insurance and accident insurance scheme.
  • The Kalia scheme of Odisha government will prove to be helpful in reducing the problem of poverty in the state.
  • Implementation of the scheme will improve the financial condition of the farmers of the state.
